Tawa pulao recipe {Street style pulao}

Mumbai Tava pulao is an easy and quick pulav recipe that uses leftover pav bhaji gravy recipe.

  • 1 cup of basmati rice

  • 2 spoons turmeric

  • half tsp salt

  • 1 tsp oil

  • Soak & boil water

for pulao:

  • 2 tablespoons butter

  • 1 teaspoon cumin/jeera

  • ½ onion (sliced)

  • 1 tsp ginger garlic paste

  • 1 carrot (peeled and chopped)

  • 2 tablespoons capers (chopped)

  • 2 tablespoons peas

  • 5 chopped beans

  • ¾ tsp salt

  • 2 diced tomatoes (finely chopped)

  • 2¼ tsp pav bhaji masala

  • ¼ tsp Kashmiri red chili powder

  • 1 potato (boiled & cube)

  • 2 tbsp coriander (finely chopped)

  • 1 tbsp lemon juice


  • Heat 2 tsp butter and saute 1 tsp cumin until it turns aromatic in a Kadai.

  • Add 12 onions and 1 tablespoon ginger garlic paste. Stir well.

  • On low heat, add one carrot, two tablespoons of capsicum, two tablespoons of peas, five beans, and 12 tablespoons of salt.

  • Stir-fry for 3 minutes or until vegetables are slightly cooked.

  • Continue to cook until the tomatoes become soft and mushy.

  • Lastly, add 2 tbsp pav bhaji masala and 14 tbsp chili powder.

  • Stir until the oil is released from the masala paste.

  • Add one boiled and cubed potato and combine well.

  • Stir in cooked rice.

  • Be careful not to break the rice when mixing.

  • Stir in 2 tbsp of coriander and 1 tbsp of lemon juice. mix well.

  • finally, serve Mumbai Tawa pulao with raita.
